Data protection declaration
We know that you expect a careful handling of your personal data. This is why GroupM Germany GmbH and GroupM Competence Center GmbH (subsequently called “GroupM“, meaning both enterprises) regard the protection of any data as a matter of highest priority. Unconditioned respect for the right of informal self-determination is among our most basic principles. GroupM feels unrestrictedly obliged to data protection as required by German and European law. On this page we inform you about the handling of data by GroupM.1. Data storage and processing
Without your explicit consent GroupM does not and at no time store person-related data or data that could be related to persons. We neither store data such as name, address, e-mail or telephon number, nor do we store data that allow inferences to certain persons. Neither we nor our customers are able to relate general information about advertisement-relevant target groups to certain persons.
Within the GroupM System special precautions have been taken to prevent the processing of data that could be related to persons. Especially an anonymizing service - hosted by an independent provider - makes sure that no user IP addresses enter the GroupM System. It is guaranteed that GroupM can neither in fact nor legally access these IP addresses or to circumvent the anonymizing protection in any other way.
2. Data procecessing and usage
GroupM identifies advertising-related target groups according to socio-demographic properties and interests. GroupM does not assign sensible interest categories such as race, religion or sexual orientation. The different target groups are provided with advertisements most relevant for them. This is also of benefit for you because it allows to minimizes side effects that produce advertisements irrelevant for you and to control the number of advertisements.
To provide target groups with advertisements it's of no relevance to consider the interests of single persons; on the contrary: you have to regard anonymous and standardized person groups. We exclusively process statistical patterns resulting from the anonymous use of online advertisements and editorial contents.
3. Data security
Although we only process anonymous data, all of our staff members who handle data are sworn to secrecy prior to their commencement of work, according to §5 Bundesdatenschutzgesetz (Federal Data Protection Law). Additionally, GroupM takes technical and organizational safety measures to prevent manipulation, destruction or loss of data.
4. Use of "cookies"
GroupM works with cookies. When a user visits websites with GroupM advertisements, GroupM stores (by means of a cookie) a number in his browser. The number, for example, could be "4711". This way the browser "remembers" the user's website calls. It's not possible to transfer this number to another browser. Neither we nor any third party is able to relate the number to a certain person.
5. Options for data/cookies
You have several options to prevent the use of cookies by GroupM or the detection, storage and use of your personal interests by means of anonymous data:
